Adventure in Puning Hidden Spring

Let me tell you the kind of adventure that we had this summer in Pampanga.  We have decided to find a place where we will definitely enjoy and at the same time practical.  Hiking is the first and last idea.  Good thing, one of us suggested a “secret adventure place” in Sapang Bato.  That’s where the story begins…

“All our bags are packed and ready to go…” Everyone is ready and excited to discover the place behind the “disaster”.  As we all know, Sapang Bato (near Clarkfield, Pampanga) is one of the most devastated community during the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.  Now, it’s time for us to see in reality what truly happened and what have changed.

This is the entry to Sapang Bato, cradle of our katutubos, popularly known as Aetas.  The way in getting there is like experiencing a tour in a mini Baguio with zigzag road, cold temperature and green environment.  Now starts the adventure as we discover.

Walking is not advisable to get there.  You really need to board on a 4×4 vehicle.  It only cost P1,000 – P1,500 to bring you to the destination and fetch you anytime you want.

Along the way, you will see and meet Aetas doing their daily routines (washing clothes in the river, cooking, carrying a pile of wood, walking down to the city, etc.).  They are all very friendly, as you will see some kids waving their hands  welcoming you in their place.

There are 3 stations in the Tour Package to Puning Hot Spring:   Station 1-  Camp and Restaurant, Station 2- Spa and Massage and Station 3 – Puning Hot Spring.  We did not take that package since we have a different plan for this adventure.  However, if  you are planning to have that package, it costs P3,000.00 inclusive of the following:

  • 4×4 tour (3 Stations, Puning Area and Back to the Base Camp)
  • Buffet Meals
  • Hot Spring Entrance fee
  • Sand Steam
  • Foot Massage
  • Body Mud Pack

After passing the community and Stations 1&2, you will be seeing the vast dry land.  Lahar canyons,  rifts and crevices are everywhere.  If you are a passionate mountain climber, you will surely enjoy this.

One of the most awaited and “must-try” experience is the bumpy ride in the Puning streams.  This is a 30 minute drive in water.  All you have to do is to scream and enjoy the ride.

Now, it’s time to face the high lahar mountains.  This is how disastrous this place before, but  rapidly it became a tourist destination.  Let’s start climbing!

It’s not only the place that brought us to the heart of  Puning, it is also the people who made the adventure worth it.  We have learned so much from them.  Their warm welcome and way of living show that life is still beautiful no matter how hard it is.

Puning Hot Spring

The highlight of the venture made the Puning Experience fulfilling.  We finally got to the Hidden Hot Spring.   You will see and appreciate the beauty of nature, enjoy the warm spring of water, spa pebbles and delight of the people.

The haven was found! Come and experience it yourself.

Till the next  Pampanga Adventure…
